Meet the Founder

Pete’s Story

Pete Fajkowski believes mortgage lending is more than just a business — it’s a mission driven by representation, advocacy and education. As an openly LGBT entrepreneur, Pete founded Mortgage Portfolio Services (MPS) to create a mortgage brokerage where a massive portfolio of mortgage products, ethics and education come first. In addition, inclusivity, financial empowerment and outreach to underserved communities are paramount.

His journey wasn’t conventional. Growing up as a Gay teen in Boston, Pete learned firsthand the importance of resilience, integrity and standing up for underrepresented communities. Those early experiences shaped his approach to mortgage lending—building a company that prioritizes transparency, financial literacy and accessibility for all.

By its third year in operation, Mortgage Portfolio Services (MPS) became the largest Gay-owned independent mortgage brokerage in Austin and ranked as the 4th largest mortgage company in the city. This ranking continued year after year. But the company could have been even larger if it had kept its Gay-owned identity out of the press.

Why Visibility Matters

Why was it important to MPS?
First, visibility in business is about more than just identity, it paves the way for others. Second, if just one Gay teenager saw this success and chose to keep going, then every penny lost by being open would have been worth it.

In a nation where over 40% of LGBT youth contemplate suicide, Pete has always believed that openly embracing his identity in business could send a powerful message – that you belong, you can succeed, and you are not alone.

As a lifelong advocate for diversity and equity, Pete has worked to ensure that homebuyers from all backgrounds, including LGBT, Black, Hispanic, and immigrant communities, all have access to fair, honest lending solutions.

Beyond the mortgage world, Pete’s bilingual skills and international experience have deepened his ability to serve diverse clients. Having traveled extensively through Central and South America, working as a translator and financial educator, he saw firsthand the economic challenges people face globally. That passion for education is reflected in MPS’s client-first approach, ensuring that every borrower is fully informed, empowered and supported.

Giving Back to the Community

I am thankful to many, but particularly to the Southern Baptist, African-American community in Austin, TX. They are a loving community that practically built my mortgage brokerage in the early years. Their commitment to referring congregation members and friends to MPS was remarkable, and I am forever grateful.

For this reason, and because we believe in the cause, 10% of net income from all African-American clients, or from any client who wishes to support the cause, is donated to Black Lives Matter every quarter.
